Reflective Narrative
In this course students were taught the necessary forms of grammar and vocabulary needed to accurately present our ideas in Japanese in our script and paper, as they require a different type professional language not used in casual or standard communication. Such examples include using 'pre-masu' forms or exchanging casual words or phrases, such as changing すごく to 非常に, into much more polite and acceptable terms based on the form of medium, such as newspapers or textbooks, that was to be used. This was difficult as many of these polite forms or certain words or phrases were brand new to me. As the paper, presentation, and script, example 2, required different styles of conjugation, it became even more challenging. But through repetition in using these forms in class assignments, I was able to persevere. Repetition through the use of weekly class assignments, class readings and other forms of participation, and the handouts given to us were incredibly useful in clearly explaining the use and requirements with each type of particular words or phrases. We continued to learn how to use Google applications to refine our surveys, example 1, research papers, and presentations as we translated them into Japanese using the grammar taught to us in this class. As the semester came to a close, we finalized our presentations, and our professors advised us to present a quality project that could be easily understood by our audience. The result was a well-organized and thoroughly researched and translated senior project. To see more examples of coursework please refer to my Capstone tab.
